Takuma had never won a major tournament before this moment, but his unique team featuring Mega Dragonite showed the poise of a long-tenured genius. After all, he's played for fifteen years leading up to this moment.
\n\"Charizard and Venusaur teams were very common in this meta, so I was looking for a Pokémon that was strong into that composition,\" he said. \"Mega Dragonite ended up being the answer.\"
\nAnd that it was. Takuma positioned Mega Dragonite well, giving it room to deal with Hiroshi's Garchomp and Basculegion. You also have to give a shoutout to Takuma's Kingambit holding on with 1% HP in game two!
\nFollowing the conclusion of the match, Pokémon VGC caster Scott Glaza said it best: \"It doesn't matter if others believe in you, as long as you believe in yourself.” Takuma looked stunned on stage, but after years of hard work, the whole world knows his skill now.

\n\"It felt absolutely amazing,\" he said. \"First time on stream, first time at an event this big, I just couldn't believe it.\"
\nHe may not have believed it today, but based on his performance, we won't be surprised to see him return to the champions’ podium in the future.

\n“When me and my friend were testing the matchup leading up to the finals, we kind of learned at one point that if [Alakazam] puts Lucky Helmet in play, they can get decked out,” Andrew explained in an interview after the match.
\nAndrew took advantage of the Lucky Helmet attached to Diego’s Alakazam and forced his deck down to a measly two cards. At that point, Diego didn’t have a way to add cards to his deck, and it was all but certain that Andrew had turned it around. It was an ingenious play that Andrew had looked for as soon as the game state stopped favoring him, just hoping that Diego would eventually attach Lucky Helmet.
\nSome might say Dragapult ex winning Worlds was all but inevitable, but Andrew’s deck list featuring two Risky Ruins was the perfect match for Diego’s Alakazam deck, lowering the HP of his Pokémon. Success in the Pokémon TCG requires strong deck building and quick on-the-fly decision-making, and Andrew showcased both as he earned the 2026 Worlds title.

When we chatted with Jake after the match, he mentioned that he picked Alakazam for the tournament because he believed that it was the best choice for “making a deep run” due to having some of the best winning matchups.
\nIt was clear that he was prepared to take down Mega Kangaskhan ex, and despite the tournament being in a large-scale arena, he “didn’t feel nervous,” having shaken his nerves after reaching Top 8 the day before. He was “more focused on having fun,” and it clearly paid off. The title of World Champion is great, but as Jake said on the stream, he just wants to be “among the best.”
\nAfter winning Worlds and finally defeating his friend Elijah (if you know, you know), Jake thinks that “probably makes him pretty good,” but this year he is the best.

\nAnd he sure was happy. GGs489hiromaru battled well, and despite Hippowdown being his ace for most of the tournament, it was his Hisuian Electrode that sealed the deal against MEweedle.
\n“The really key Pokémon I was strategizing on using was Hisuian Electrode, making sure that it went against any Pokémon except for Ninetales,” he said. “But against Ninetales, if I did switch in Hisuian Electrode, I wanted to make sure that I had a resource advantage along with Protect Shields.”
\nIf you watch the battle, you’ll see that key decision-making in action as he danced around MEweedle’s Shadow Ninetales. It was a hard-fought win, and GGs489hiromaru is clearly worthy of the title “Champion.”
